Where's Pipes?

Happy New Year, Ghostwatchers! By far the most asked question that comes the way of the blog concerns the mysterious, fleeting appearances from our notoriously elusive poltergeist, Pipes... Villainous spectre, Mr. Pipes makes an undisclosed number of physical appearances in GHOSTWATCH, currently thought to be as many as "13" [minus Cherise Wesson's sketch seen at 00:19:00]. Online rumours of another fabled sighting at 01:16:18 were later debunked by director, Lesley Manning [see below]. Irrefutable proof, or just 'faces in the fire'? Decide for yourself... Greetings, Ghostwatchers! Almost twenty-five years on, and it seems that Mr. Pipes still delights in tormenting his audience with further, potential hidden appearances. So much so, in fact, that one Ghostwatcher in particular - James Syrett , recently got in touch, to suggest a few new possible sightings of his very own... Before we start, it's worth noting that Dr. Lin Pascoe's eloquently logical notion of 'Faces in the Fire', remains something of a much-loved mantra, around these parts. We know that there are definitely eight confirmed sightings of the notoriously-bashful Raymond Tunstall, one debunked, and perhaps as many as five more left to track down, in total. It's also worth a mention that although the golden figure of "Thirteen" appearances is posited during the doc, the actual final tally could well have reduced/increased, during the exhaustive edit of the original film.

"Ghost Watch" - The Original Series Outline

Greetings, Ghostwatchers! To mark the upcoming, special anniversary edition of National Séance, writer-creator, Stephen Volk has very kindly shared his original Series Outline for Ghostwatch [sorry, better make that, "Ghost Watch" ] to check out, and it's a fascinating, if inescapably eerie read. Not only that, but Stephen has kindly written a few words to accompany the pages, below... So this, arguably the distilled concept for the first iteration of the programme – then envisioned as a five-part serial – largely came about due to the then-soaring response to Martin Campbell & Troy Kennedy Martin's seminal 1985 eco-thriller, Edge of Darkness. Famously, Stephen's agent suggested to him at the time that the BBC might be receptive to a 'darker' mode of storytelling, and this is what he produced.

National Séance Live – The Tenth Annual Event

Greetings, Ghostwatchers! On Saturday, 31st October 2020, the annual Behind the Curtains Tweet-cast, National Séance will have been haunting, cheese'n pickling, and otherwise glory-holing your Twitter feeds for no less than a decade. How time flies, even when your watch stops. We've all heard the same captivating anniversary speech a thousand times before, but when I first imagined the idea of a virtual 'repeat' of Ghostwatch in 2010 as potentially being a fun way to celebrate Hallowe'en, and the programme's eighteenth birthday, alongside some like-minded fans, I had no idea it would become a kind-of phenomenon in its own right.

Yep, it's official - writer, Stephen Volk is to put pen to paper for an upcoming episode of The Simpsons ! Set to air sometime in October, Treehouse of Horror XXI will feature the lovable yellow family from Springfield, USA confronting the shadowy spectre of Mr. Pipes - having escaped across the Atlantic thanks to Professor Frink's terrifying new invention... the TeleSoul Transmitter 2000. But it doesn't end there, as Ghostwatch writer & creator Stephen is set to cameo as himself at some point during the (almost) annual Hallowe'en TV special too!
